Crows Nest 76 – Winter 2016

Crows Nest 76 – Winter 20162017-12-05T16:49:06+00:00

Project Description

Communication has been a buzzword around the Club for a couple of years or so and the new ebsite, now fully functioning, certainly fulfills that objective. If you have not already done so, do check it out.

There are already numerous events listed for 2017 including a possible meet up at the London Boat Show, a Safety at Sea & Operational talk by Harwich RNLI on the 14th January, Website Workshops both basic and advanced on 15th January & 11th February, a general knowledge quiz on 4th February & on 28th January a day of specialist presentations on such diverse subjects as Digital Photography (composition & uploading to website), Rope Work (whipping & splicing), avoiding food poisoning at sea(!) & diesel engines at work. In short, something for everyone just one month into the new season!

Since Crow’s Nest went digital two or three years ago, I am conscious that some members may feel they are missing out as while a paper magazine can be shared around it is a little more difficult to do so on an Ipad (other tablets are available!). Most of our memberships are couples but often only one email address is listed in the Club’s membership records meaning that one member per couple is in danger of missing out on the Club’s magazine. If that applies to you and your spouse or partner would like their own copy of Crow’s Nest emailed to them (at no extra cost!!) please let me know the additional email address and I will add it to the list. You can contact me on

The Waterside manager, John Pipe has asked me to point out to members that the marina dredger was scheduled to commence work on the 13th December with the campaign lasting possibly to the 20th January 2017. Annual lock closure is early this year and starts 16th January for two weeks finishing on the 27th January.

The three master which broke loose from its mooring during recent gales has finally been towed  away from our shore heading for Lowestoft where it is to be scrapped.

Finally, a merry Christmas to all members and lets hope for a

happy, prosperous and peaceful New Year.
